Nach der Installation von CentOS mounten wir die ISO-Datei mit den Treiber-Dateien. Danach werden die folgenden Befehle ausgeführt

mount /dev/cdrom /media

cd /media

./install.sh

Mit diesen drei Befehlen wird das DVD-ROM nach /media gemappt. Nach einem Wechsel in das Verzeichnis wird die Datei install.sh ausgeführt. Nach einem Reboot der Maschine sind die Treiber installiert und nutzbar.

Dieses Jahr kommt “Windows 8” mit einer noch schöneren und noch viel besseren Hyper-V Version. Sie wird viele Möglichkeiten bieten, die es bisher nicht gegeben hat. Und im Gegensatz zu anderen Hypervisoren “für lau” und auch für den Client! Und deswegen sage ich: 2012 wird das Jahr von Hyper-V. Ich hatte die Gelegenheit mit einigen gleichgesinnten Enthusiasten im November die E2E Virtualisierungs Conference in London zu besuchen. Wir fünf haben spontan ein Videointerview gemacht, wo jeder über seinen Favoriten in “Hyper-V vNext” spricht. Laßt euch mal überraschen, welches Feature Ronnie Isherwood, Jeff Wouters, Didier Van Hoye (MVP Virtual Machine), Aidan Finn (MVP Virtual Machine) und Meiner einer so als Ihren Favoriten deklarieren und warum.

Server- und Service-Bereitstellung mit Virtual Machine Manager

In diesem Vortrag bin ich allein auf der Bühne und zeige einige neue Möglichkeiten des Virtual Machine Manager 2012. Dabei habe ich mir im Wesentlichen vier Punkte herausgegriffen: das “Hyper-V Bare Metal Deployment”, das “Ausrollen einen Services”, die “Dynamic Optimisation” und das “Power Manangement”. Schaut mal in die Aufzeichnung rein, denn ich habe in dem Vortrag einige Videos und Demos untergebracht. Immer nach dem Motto: “sehen ist verstehen”.

So schaffen Sie die Basis für eine Private Cloud in Ihrem Rechenzentrum

Diesen Vortrag habe ich zusammen mit dem legendären Michael Korp gehalten. Wir sprechen in ihm über die für viele Firmen bevorstehende Ablöse von Windows Server 2003 durch Windows Server 2008 R2. Außerdem gebe wir einen kleinen Einblick in unsere IT-Camp Hardware, übrigens drei Schulungsmaschinen aus unserem Hyper-V Powerkurs, mit dem man sehr schön die neuen Möglichkeiten der Private Cloud und des Hyper-V Failover Clusters testen kann. Ihr könnt in der Aufzeichnung schon ein wenig erahnen, wieviel Spaß Michael in dem IT-Camp hatten.

PowerShell ist Jeff Wouters Antwort auf die Frage, was seine Leidenschaft ist. Auf der E2E Virtualisation Konferenz in London hatte ich die Chance mit Jeff ein Videointerview über PowerShell zu drehen. In der nächsten Windows Server Version sollen immerhin über 2.400 PowerShell CmdLets vorhanden sein. Grund genug mal über dieses “Wundermittel” der Administration zu sprechen. Er erzählt unteranderem von den Möglichkeiten mit einzeiligen PowerShell Befehlen hoch komplexe Dinge zu tun. Interessant oder? Ich finde schon. Deswegen wünsche ich euch beim Anschauen des Videointerviews viel neue Erkenntnisse.

Das Microsoft MVP Programm hat schon immer eine große Faszination auf mich ausgeübt. Als ich dann am 1. Juli den MVP-Award für Virtual Machine verliehen bekommen habe, ist für mich zugegebenermaßen ein Traum in Erfüllung gegangen. Da ich glaube, daß ich nicht der einzige Träumer da draußen bin, habe ich neulich in München die Chance genutzt mit meinem MVP-Lead Jan-Philipp Rombolotto über das MVP-Programm zu sprechen. Jan-Philipp steht als MVP Lead in der Region Deutschland, Österreich und Schweiz ca. 170 MVPs als direkter Ansprechpartner zur Verfügung. In diesem Interview plaudern wir über das MVP-Programm, was für Menschen die MVPs so sind und wie man MVP wird. Ich fand das Interview sehr interessant und wünsche euch viel Spaß beim Zusehen.

Virtual Machine Manager 2012 ist für viele Hyper-V Fans ein sehr spannendes Thema. In einem Vortrag auf der E2E Virtualisation Conference in London habe ich gelernt, daß das aber durchaus auch für vShpere oder XenServer Administratoren gilt. Ronnie Isherwood sprach in seiner Präsentation, Unteranderem von der Multi-Hypervisor Unterstützung im VMM2012. Nach dem Vortag fragte ich Ronnie ob er Lust hat ein Videointerview über die Inhalte seiner Präsentation mit mir zu machen und er war sofort dabei. Also hört euch an was Ronnie, auch auf Twitter bekannt als @virtualfat, alles so zum VMM2012 zu erzählen hat. Für mich war es sehr spannend, seine Feature Favoriten zu hören.

Lizensierung in der Virtualisierung ist immer ein Thema. Deswegen habe ich mich auch sehr gefreut als Dietmar Meng (Microsoft Produkt Marketing Manager für Windows Server) auf dem TechDay Private Cloud in einer Q&A Session auf Lizenzfragen der Teilnehmer einging. Daraufhin habe ich Dietmar gefragt, ob er mit mir ein Videointerview zum Thema Lizenzierung in der Servervirtualisierung für unseren Fit-in-Lizenzen Blog machen würde. Er sagte ja und hier ist das Ergebnis.

Microsoft hat viele neue Technologien und Produkte um Bereich der Public Cloud aber auch Private Cloud. Da sind z.B. Office 365, Azure, System Center 2012 und die Virtualisierung zu nennen. Es ist für den IT-Professional nicht immer ganz einfach, sich im Alltaggeschäft mit neuen Dingen zu beschäftigen. Das hat auch Microsoft erkannt und deswegen werden zu den bewährten Wissenstransferformen wie TechDays und Webcasts jetzt auch zwei neuen Formate angeboten: die IT-Camps und die Microsoft Virtual Academy. Ich hatte Gelegenheit, bei meinem letzten Besuch in Unterschleißheim, mit Heike Ritter (Technical Evangelist) und Lars Schmoldt (Audience Marketing Manager) über diese neuen fantastischen Angebote zu sprechen.

Wie bereits angekündigt habe ich auf der E2E Virtualisation Conference in London einige Interviews geführt. Didier hat einen großen Erfahrungsschatz, wenn es um Hyper-V und Netzwerk geht (zu sehen in diesem Videointerview). Was mir aber neu war, ist das Didier ebenso erfahren im Bereich des Storage ist. Hans ist Cluster MVP und mit ihm habe ich im April diesen Jahres schon mal ein Interview gemacht. Seit dem hat sich vieles verändert. Hans hat auf der TECconf einen Vortrag zu Storage und Hyper-V V3 gehalten (einen Link auf die PowerPoint Folien findet ihr in seinem Artikel).

Also packte ich die Gelegenheit beim Schopf und habe am Ende der Konferenz ein Interview mit Hans über seine gesammelten Erkenntnisse bezüglich Hyper-V V3 und Storage gemacht. Ich wünsch euch viel Spaß beim Zuschauen.

Am 6. Oktober war es mal wieder soweit. In Hamburg fand unser zweites Hyper-V Community treffen statt. Ich hatte die Gelegenheit einen Vortrag zu den vielen Neuerungen in der nächsten Version des Microsoft Hypervisors im Developer Preview zu halten. Mann oh Mann, gibt es da viele und vor allem klasse Dinge die auf uns zu kommen.

Der System Center Configuration Manager 2007 (SCCM) ist eine umfassende Verwaltungssoftware für physikalische, virtuelle und mobile Umgebungen. Er bietet verschiedenste Werkzeuge zum Einspielen von Softwareupdates, gibt Übersichten zum PC-Bestand, enthält Tool zur Anwendungsverteilung, vereinfacht die Administration durch Remotezugriff und vieles mehr.

Das Training gibt weitreichende Einblicke in die Anwendung, wodurch Sie ein ausgezeichnetes Hilfsmittel bei der Einrichtung und Administration des SCCM zur Hand haben.

Der Trainer:

Der Trainer in diesem Kurs ist Scott Lowe (MCSE, CNA). Er besitzt über 16 Jahre Erfahrung in der Informationstechnologie und beteiligt sich unter Anderem mit einer Vielzahl an Artikel an “TechRepublic”, sowie an “TechTarget” und “TechGenix”.

In dem Tool zur Wiedergabe sind neben dem üblichen Videoauswahlbereich zusätzlich noch weitere Dokumente zu finden.

Log File List: In diesem Excel Dokument sind alle Log Files inklusive Beschreibung und Speicherort gelistet. Somit hat man immer ein hilfreiches Werkzeug zur Hand, um bei einem Problem die passenden Log Dateien zu finden.

SCCM Security Considerations: Dieses PDF Dokument gibt viele wichtige Tipps zur Vermeidung von Problemen beim Installieren und Einrichten der Software, wodurch eine lästige Problemsuche in manchen Szenarien erspart bleibt.

Troubleshooting Tips: Zuletzt liegt noch ein PDF Dokument bei, dass zur Ergänzung der Log File Liste gedacht ist. Hier wird beispielsweise auf nützliche Tools zum Lesen der Logfiles hingewiesen.

Natürlich ist auch in diesem Training eine zweite DVD mit dem Kursmaterial in anderen Dateiformaten enthalten, damit man auch über andere Wiedergabegeräte vom Kursmaterial profitieren kann.
Das Training ist strukturiert aufgebaut und der Trainer erklärt die Sachverhalte in einem gut verständlichen Englisch. Die Themen werden zusätzlich mit “Präsentationsfolien” und Einblicken in die GUI des SCCM abwechslungsreich gestaltet.

Die Awards sprechen für sich. Es ist wiedermal ein “ausgezeichneter” Kurs aus dem Hause Trainsignal, der auch zur Vorbereitung auf die Microsoft Prüfung 70-401 empfohlen ist.

Der Release Candidate des System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012 ist vor Kurzem erschienen. Wenn ein Microsoft Produkt den Status RC erreicht, bedeutet das in der Regel das Es Feature Complete ist also keine weiteren Veränderungen daran mehr stattfinden. Jetzt können “Mutige oder Wahnsinnige” es wagen, das Produkt in einer produktiv Umgebungen einzusetzen (Achtung!!! Microsoft rät strickt davon ab). Da auch wir zu diesen “Wahnsinnigen” gehören, habe ich die Installation des Virtual Machine Manager 2012 RC in unserer Umgebung in diesem Videocast Schritt für Schritt festgehalten. Windows Automated Installation Kit (AIK) für Windows 7

Im Videocast seht Ihr, wie ich auf einem System zwei Betriebssysteme, Windows Server 2008 R2 und Windows Server 8 Developer Preview, native in eine VHD installiere. Diese Art des Betriebs hat diverse Vorteile. Unteranderem sind das:

• Sicherung des Systems wie mit einer Image Software durch einfaches Kopieren der VHD
• mehrere bootbare Betriebssysteme auf einer Platte, ohne zu partitionieren
• Betrieb in einer VHD, obwohl die Machine native auf der Hardware läuft und damit z.B. Hyper-V möglich ist

Ich betreibe diese Art der Installation auf meinem MacBook Pro schon seit ca. 1.5 Jahren und bin damit sehr zufrieden. Probiert es mal aus, es hat wie gesagt viele Vorteile und nur wenige Nachteile.

Ich habe im Videocast einige Eingaben gemacht. Um es euch ein wenig zu erleichtern, habe ich diese hier nochmal aufgeführt:

CMD Fester mit SHIFT+F10 aufrufen

Basis Platte wird mit DISKPART folgendermassen partitioniert und formatiert:

1. 1. DISKPART aufrufen
2. 2. list disk
3. 3. select disk 0
4. 4. create PARTITION PRIMARY
5. 5. format FS=NTFS LABEL=”VHD-Volume” QUICK
6. 6. assign LETTER=C
7. 7. exit

Mit dem Befehl „mkdir C:\VHDs“ erzeugen wir dann auf Laufwerk C: das Verzeichnis VHDs

VHD wird mit DISKPART so erstellt:

1. 1. DISKPART aufrufen
2. 2. list vol
3. 3. select VOL 1
4. 4. create VDISK FILE=”C:\VHDs\W2K8R2.vhd” MAXIMUM=40000 TYPE=FIXED
5. 5. select VDISK FILE=”C:\VHDs\W2K8R2.vhd”
6. 6. attach VDISK

Fortsetzen der ersten Installation.

Die Installation des zweiten Betriebssystems Windows Server 8 Developer Preview wird ebenfalls von der DVD gestartet. Wenn die Abfrage der Tastatur und Ländereinstellungen kommt, ruft man sich wieder ein CMD Fester mit SHIFT+F10 auf. Dann erzeigt man mit DISKPART die zweite VHD wie folgt:

1. 1. DISKPART aufrufen
2. 2. list VOL
3. 3. select VOL 1
4. 4. create VDISK FILE=”C:\VHDs\W8ServerDP.vhd” MAXIMUM=40000 TYPE=FIXED

Vortsetzen der Windows Server 8 Developer Preview Installation.

Man ist das eine Konferenz. Zuerst die live übertragene Keynote. Das war schon ein Feuerwerk, die mich doch stark an die Keynotes von Apple erinnert hat. Dann wird Windows 8 vorgestellt. Das Produkt sieht einfach klasse aus. Und dann die Krönung: der Developer Preview des Clients ist für jedermann aus dem Internet downloadbar und den Developer Preview des Servers gibt’s bei MSDN ebenfalls zum Download. Ein Knaller nach dem anderen. Damit ihr und wir noch durch die Ganzen Videosessions der Build Konferenz in Anaheim durchblickt, habe ich die bis jetzt verfügbaren Microsoft Private Cloud relevanten Sessions zusammengetragen. Ich werde die Inhalte in einem meiner nächsten Podcasts besprechen. Jetzt aber schon mal viel Spaß beim Anschauen.

Diesmal geht es um den System Center Data Protection Manager, kurz DPM.

Der DPM ist eine umfangreiche und umfassende Backupsoftware aus der System Center Familie. Er stellt eine universelle Sicherungslösung im Microsoft Umfeld dar, und beinhaltet beispielsweise Backupkomponenten für SQL, Exchange und sogar für virtuelle Maschinen.

Nun zur Beschreibung des Trainings:

Wie gewohnt befinden sich in dem Set zwei DVDs. Die Eine beinhaltet die Videos inklusive einem Wiedergabetool. Die Andere enthält weitere Ressourcen, beispielsweise den Kurs in MP3 Form oder als WMV für Unterwegs.

Die Software auf der Video-DVD ist sehr übersichtlich und intuitiv bedienbar. Sie besteht aus zwei Teilen. Zuerst erscheint das Fenster, aus dem die Videos ausgewählt werden (Es bietet einen Überblick über alle Videos):

Nach dem Klick auf ein Video, öffnet sich ein weiteres Fenster im Browser. Von hier aus kann man dann die einzelnen Abschnitte einsehen und auswählen (Bietet Überblick über die Abschnitte in einem einzelnen Video):

Der Kurstrainer ist in diesem Tutorial ist Scott Lowe. Er hat unter Anderem über 17 Jahre Erfahrung in der IT-Branche, ist Autor von drei Büchern und hat die Qualifizierung des MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer).

Er erklärt umfangreich und verständlich in gutem Englisch die Installation und Konfiguration des DPM Servers. Jeder Schritt wird ausführlich erläutert und am Ende des Videos werden die besprochenen Inhalte noch einmal wiederholt.

Der Kurs beginnt mit dem Erstellen und Erklären des Netzwerks, in das der DPM implementiert werden soll. Im weiteren Verlauf erläutert Scott Lowe unter Anderem alle Anwendungsgebiete des DPM, wie z.B.:

Backup Exchange,

Backup SQL,

Backup Virtuelle Maschinen,

und geht auf die Verwaltung ein:

Überwachung des DPM,

Fehlerbehebung, usw.

Die dabei verwendeten Folien sind übersichtlich gestaltet und aufgrund vieler praktischer Vorführungen direkt am DPM wird es nie langweilig.

Ein weiterer wichtiger Punkt ist, dass die einzelnen Videos immer ein spezifisches Thema abhandeln, weshalb man auch später wieder zu dem grade benötigten Thema springen kann.

Nun kommen wir zum eigentlichen Inhalt des Kurses. Den Aufbau und die einzelnen Themen sehen Sie im Folgenden aufgelistet:

Zuerst erkläre ich, was für ein Bare Metal Deployment alles notwendig ist (WDS Server mit PXE Boot, DHCP Einträge, Betriebssystem in einer VHD, Host Profile) und wie ich es konfiguriere. Danach sieht man dann, per Zeitraffer gekürzt, wie so ein Baremetal Deployment auf einen HP Proliant DL360 G6 aussieht. Ich wünsch euch wie immer viel Spaß beim Zuschauen.

Ich mag das: ich stelle Fragen und Microsoft Experten antworten. So ist es auch bei diesem Videointerview. Auf der Microsoft Systemmanagement Summit 2011 hatte ich die Gelegenheit einen Vortrag von Michael Korp zur Private Cloud von Microsoft zu genießen. Michael ist vielen sicherlich noch als Technologie Evangelist von etlichen Microsoft Veranstaltungen bekannt. Also fragte ich ihn nach der Session ob wir nicht ein Videointerview zum Thema Private Cloud machen können und er sagte spontan ja.

Das ist ein Videointerview, auf das ich richtig stolz bin. Nicht wegen meinem “makellosen Englischs”, sondern weil ich die Gelegenheit hatte, mit Hans Vredevoort seines Zeichens Hyper-V Aktivist und Microsoft Cluster MVP zu sprechen. Auf der TechSummit Cloud in Köln traf ich Daniel Neumann und interviewte ihn zu seinem Vortrag Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, den er auf den er auf dem Microsoft Student Partner Techday Online gehalten hat. Virtualisation: Windows Server Licensing (Länge 14:20)

Dieser Webcast beschäftigt sich mit der Lizenzierung der Microsoft Serverbetriebsyteme, speziell Windows Server 2008 R2. Es werden die verschiedenen Editions (Standard, Enterprise und Datacenter) und deren beinhaltete Zusatzlizenzen besprochen. Weiterhin geht der Webcast auch auf Besonderheiten ein, wenn die VMs in Umgebung betrieben werden, in der man die Maschinen von einem Host auf den anderen verschieben kann (Livewigration, VMotion, XenMotion).

Private Cloud was ist das denn schon wieder? Eine neue Microsoft Marketing Namenskreation? Ja und nein. Unter Private Cloud versteht Microsoft den Aufbau einer serviceorientierten IT-Umgebung alla Dynamic-IT. Allerdings nicht in der Public Cloud, also dem Internet, sondern bei sich im Unternehmen. Eben privat. Ich traf Jörg Ostermann von Microsoft auf der CeBIT und er war spontan zu einem Videointerview mit mir zum Thema Private Cloud bereit. Dynamic Memory und RemoteFX (Level 200) – Überblick über das Service Pack 1 für Windows Server 2008 R2 und Windows 7

Im Rahmen meiner Projektarbeit zur Abschlussprüfung zum Fachinformatiker für Systemintegration war es meine Aufgabe eine kostengünstige Hochverfügbarkeitslösung zu finden. Die Wahl viel wie nicht anders zu vermuten als Microsoft Gold Partner auf Hyper-V. Aus Kostengründen haben wir uns für den Hyper-V Server und den Windows Storage Server entschieden.

In dieser Reihe möchte ich die Live Migration mit Hyper-V vorstellen und demonstrieren wie ein Failovercluster installiert wird. Die Live-Migration beinhaltet das transparente verschieben einer virtuellen Maschine von einem physikalischen Host auf einen anderen. Der Vorteil an der Live-Migration ist, wenn ein Administrator eine Wartung oder ein Problem an einem physikalischen Host feststellt, kann die darauf laufende Instanz einfach auf ein anderes System migriert werden ohne das angebundene Clients die Verbindung zu der Maschine verlieren oder die virtuelle Maschine etwas davon bemerkt. Dadurch werden Ausfälle von Instanzen gering gehalten und Arbeitsausfälle vermieden.

Ich werde von der Installation der Server bis hin zur Live-Migration meine Schritte erklären.
In den ersten Teil möchte ich zeigen wie wir das Projekt Realisiert haben (siehe Grafik).

Auf die Einzelheiten der verwenden Hard und Software und der Grund warum wir sie so gewählt haben komme ich im Verlauf dieser Reihe noch zu sprechen wenn die einzelnen Punkte konfiguriert werden.

Ausblick:

Im zweiten Teil der Reihe gehe ich auf die Installation und Konfiguration der Hyper-V Server ein.

Ben gibt einige interessante Einblicke und in die Implementierung und erläutert

auch warum man diesen Ansatz gewählt hat. Interessant sind auch seine Demos in der er Dynamic Memory mit bis zu 16 Windows 7 VMs auf einem 8 GB Host zeigt. Was mich wirklich in dem Vortrag überrascht hat ist ein Slide auf der die  unterstützten Gastbetriebssysteme zu finden sind. Ich war bisher immer davon ausgegangen, das nur die neusten Systeme also Windows 7 und Windows Server 2008 R2 mit SP1 Dynamic Memory unterstützen. Das ist aber ein großer Irrtum meinerseits. Dies Liste der supporteten Gäste sieht so aus:

• Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2008 und Windows Server 2008 R2 sowohl in 32-bit und in 64-bit Edition
• Windows Vista und Windows 7 in der Ultimate und Enterprise ebenfalls in 32-bit und in der 64-bit Edition

Mein Fazit

Die Videos sind ein sehr guter Einblick in Microsofts Hyper-V und dessen Benutzung. Wer allerdings eine Vorbereitung für die Microsoft Virtualisierungsprüfung erwartet wird enttäuscht werden. Das ist auch nicht der Anspruch des Videokurses. Wer allerdings einen Einblick in Hyper-V erwartet ist bei diesem Videos genau richtig. Ich meine das der Kurs sein Preis von $299 jederzeit wert ist.
